The Woodland Pavilion was constructed on Maplewood Farm in Lucas, Ohio. The farm is a functioning maple syrup farm and saw mill. The design and program for the structure was completely inspired by the site on the farm. As I walked the woods of the farm I found a large collected patch of stones that had been covered with moss and sitting for quite some time. By tracing the history of the farm I discovered that these stones were placed here during the beginning years of the farm, the stones had been cleared from the sheep pastures and placed out of the way in the woods. The pavilion is programmed as a simple resting space, where you share this unexpected relation with the stones. The project is made of solid walnut, cottonwood, and three thousand pounds of hand casted concrete.
